I notice people commenting on '60s fashions, and eye makeup. Sometimes I wonder if all people remember was the makeup and, oh, the hippies. Gotta love hippies.

And then I realize, it's the movies. And maybe the music too. People love classic films. I love classic films too!! But I love the sixties too. I was born about 50 years too late, I do believe. Who wants to listen to metal when they have '60s music? And what is up with clothing nowadays? We don't want to go back to the '80s styles and yet scarily enough I think we just might be going there, again. Who wants that?
But I'm just ranting.
I think I need to find one person who is my kindred spirit and loves the sixties as I do, besides my dear Aunt (you know who you are) who can sit around and talk to me about sixties music, clothes, movies, and history for hours on end.
Some of you may comment on this and tell me I'm CRAZY because the sixties was such a CRAZY era. And, yes, this may be true, but the world changed so drastically in that decade. It's amazing to read about! And some of you may comment and say you do love the sixties, well please do comment and tell me that! I need to hear it from somebody.
At first glace (on facebook), I thought this was a picture of a cave-man/woman, but then upon further inspection, they just turned out to be hippies. What a relief! (though the guy should really hide those woolly legs...)
ReplyDeleteI have to admit the older I get the more I long for those days. I watched every launch from mercury to Skylab. I saw Star Trek before it was next gen, before it was re-runs. I see an old art deco clock and I get nostalgic. I was born then, and it passed too fast.

Sixties had some great moments. The clothes were a little odd at times and the "Free Love" movement hasn't been much of a contribution to our society. But I was born in the 60's so that makes them wonderful to me!!
ReplyDeleteI must agree.I too was born about 30 years too late. Still love Janis, the dead, jimi and all the rest. I think many of the flowing fabrics, patterns, and colors were and still are beautiful - shop vintage! I get
ReplyDeleteSo angry when people (like my husband )see only a bunch of filthy, buzzed up hippies when they think if that decade ..they were so much more. They had such beautiful ideas about what society could be.many tried to make their own little places to co-exist in peace. But unfortunately the real world always had a way of forcing it's way in.peace out!
hey there i definitely relate to your yearniings & sorta post-nostalgia or w/e, & i have read so much about those times & the earlier bohemian eras/movements which the whole hippie thing evolved from & i also see where the 60s own influence went; it certainly didn`t just fizzle out , az so many would like to have the world believe. itz influence haz actually been very strong & rather ubiquitous! itz just subtle in some wayz.... i 1st dropped LSD 20 yearz ago (feb. `92) & i wuz immediately epiphaniously aware of so much of what it had all been about & realised that i myself wuz a hippy, even if i didn`t look too much like one... now in 2012 i still drop acid & i smoke hash pretty frequently & i have a pretty "granola" diet if u will(which has huge amounts to do with all the folk diet science of teh time) .... i love lotsa 60s music but also vast amounts of psychedelic/experimental electronica & i feel the whole rave/IDM/ambient/&c movements owe a HUGE debt to the earlier psy cultures.... the truth is our species has alwaez embraced psychedelia in one demographic or another in most healthy/balanced societies, but in the last few centuries such cultures have often been ostracised or outright erradicated by various rabid/paranoid authorities... all blessingz on aldous huxley, ken kesey, tim leary, the beats, rochdale college, the woodstock festival organizers... & genesis p. orridge, all the rave promoters & artists & dancers out there... terrence mckenna, simon posford/shpongle, daniel pinchbeck.... the list goes on... & the essential elements which defined "60s" culture are still alive & thriving!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletefeel free to contact me & talk about it: cthulhupuff@gmail.com or better just search "aaron t. johnston" on facebook. peace , love & all blessingz!!!!
