April 17th, 2010 was the 40th anniversary of Apollo 13 returning safely home. If you haven't already read it, I suggest that everyone reads Apollo 13 by Jim Lovell. It's a truly amazing, and fascinating story. On April 11th, 1970 three astronauts, Jim Lovell, Fred Haise and Jack Swigert were launched toward the moon. On April 13th something exploded on their ship and they started to lose oxygen. They could no longer stay alive in the command module and had to move and over, and learn to survive in the lunar module. The lunar module was not for flying in but for landing on the moon so they three men had to make some adjustments. After 4 days of living in a freezing cold ship the three men finally splashed down on April 17th, safe and sound.
