Tonight I watched Persuasion. It's definitely one of my favorite movies. I also love the book, but I love all of Jane Austen's books.
Now there is a woman that has left her mark in history! People not only love her books they love her. They love to study her and visit the places she writes about (Bath! I've been there myself, once). She was truly a remarkable woman. Probably her most loved piece of work is Pride and Prejudice. Who doesn't love Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy and their intense hatred towards each other turned to love? My personal favorite is Northanger Abbey. I just love Catherine and her wild imagination!
If you have never read a Jane Austen, I suggest that you do. They are filled with a lot of historical information about the way things were done in the early 19th century. Such as their manners, the way they spoke and how they interacted with one another. There is some politics in them too, and their is a great deal of information on how inheritance worked, who got what and how and how much and how it worked... So fascinating! But not only they they are filled with humor, drama and romance. What other book can you pick up that has such polite ways of insulting each other?! I dare say...
That is all for tonight, I dare say. ;-)
Thought I'd let you know I've just stumbled across this blog and I'm enjoying it very much indeed.
ReplyDeleteWe seem to agree on pretty much everything!
Best,
Matthew
Have you seen the BBC's adaptation of Northanger Abbey? I only watched it because Robert Hardy was in it ( <3 ) but it is a really immense adaptation. Usually the Beeb's are though...
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog - loving it! (:
Incidentally, I am intending to join your followers but for some reason my computer is playing up... I will keep trying though!
