They could see the shoreline... Normandy. This is where they would get off and fight. This is where they would watch their buddies die in agony, screaming for their mothers, this is where history would be made... On this day... D-day.
There was 160,000 of them. Many too young to even shave, yet. Some of them came in by boat, some from the air... As soon as they landed on the beach they could hear the bullets hitting all around them. *pop* Some fell down silently with a thud. *pop* A piercing scream splits the air. There were snipers picking them off, one by one. All around people were screaming "Medic! Medic! Corpsman!" They cried, they prayed, they charged ahead bravely.
Only 60,000 of them live to see the next day.
Sixty-thousand of one-hundred and sixty-thousand.
This is in memory of all the boys who fought... and all the boys who died on June 6, 1944...
